All 3 Major Indexes Gained Today As Crude Oil Fell Below $70

The 3 major indices advanced today as crude for future delivery fell below the $70 mark. The data in the August, 2006 Employment Situation report contributed to the day's bullishness, as low unemployment and 128,000 new jobs suggest that the economy is easing -- and not crashing -- as a result of 2 years of interest rate increases by the Fed. All Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) components save one advanced today. 1,123,796,690 shares were traded @ The New York Stock Exchange®.

For the week, the DJIA gained 180.10 points (1.60%), the NASDAQ Composite Index gained 52.87 points (2.47%), and the S&P 500 Index gained 15.92 points (1.23%).


Shares of DJIA component Caterpillar (CAT) gained $0.92 (+1.39%) to close @ $67.27.

Shares of DJIA component General Motors (GM) gained $1.09 (+3.74%) to close @ $30.27.


Shares of Intergraph Corporation (INGR) added $6.54 (+17.51%) to close @ $43.90.


Shares of Summa Industries (SUMX) added $6.29 (+73.91%) to close @ $14.80.


Shares of Transocean Inc. (RIG) added $4.33 (+6.49%) to close @ $71.08.


Shares of Greif Inc. (GEF) added $3.68 (+5.19%) to close @ $74.53.


Shares of Diamond Offshore Drilling Inc. (DO) added $3.43 (+4.73%) to close @ $75.91.


Shares of Nam Tai Electronics Inc. (NTE) lost $3.56 (-23.75%) to close @ $11.43.


Shares of Tween Brands Inc. (TWB) lost $2.26 (-6.64%) to close @ $31.80.


Shares of Pegasus Wireless Corporation (PGWC) lost $1.05 (-30.61%) to close @ $2.38.


Shares of Peerless Systems Corporation (PRLS) lost $1.08 (-26.93%) to close @ $2.93.
