Challenger Report on Corporate Layoffs for May, 2006
The outplacement company Challenger this morning released their monthly report on new announcements of U.S. corporate layoffs:
Job Cuts Announced in May, 2006: 53,716
When corporate layoffs numbers are high, this can have an impact on consumer spending since there are less people with steady jobs.
When corporate layoffs are low, this can mean that the job market is very tight, which can be a harbinger of wage inflation.
